The sun gets hit by the nearly pure iron remains of a dead planet! The sun explodes and casts out it's last deadly rays toward an unsuspecting civilization.

Hm.... Arthur Dent in his search of tea (just hope you know the hitchikers guide to the galaxy <3 ) travels along that area and the rays are to hit him instead of that civilization
